Start at Hartside and walk up the valley, taking in views of Dunmoor Hill and Shill Moor to cross Linhope Burn. Follow the marked trail and look out for red squirrels (and the Scots Pine cones they like to nibble) as you approach Linhope Spout- a 60 foot waterfall, cascading into a 6 foot wide and 16 foot deep plunge pool. Cool off with a refreshing dip and views of Hedgehope Hill, the second highest of the Northumberland hills.

Make the most of the long summer days to tackle Cheviot itself. Start early to scale its 815 metre peak and reward yourself with truly spectacular views of Northumberland National Park. Choose a clear day and you can see far as the Lake District to the west and Edinburgh to the north. For a more gentle walk, the Cheviot Hills offer a wealth of historic hiking trails, taking you through heather-draped hillsides and tussocky moors to meet wild Cheviot goats and spot kestrels and red kites.
