Twixmas is a true gift of the festive season. A series of sleepy, cosy days between Christmas and New Year with time to do exactly as you please.

And from bracing walks to blow away the cobwebs and mince pies to days of pure relaxation, hibernating by the fire with a book and plate of leftover treats, however you spend your Twixmas- our snug stable suites offer the perfect location. Explore our guide to Twixmas in Northumberland to plan your post-Christmas getaway.

Walk This Way

If Christmas has left you in a fug of too much pudding and turkey – it’s time to lace up your boots and step out into the Northumbrian wilderness. Our National Park offers mile upon mile of unspoilt country, with trails suited to every type of hiker (or non-hiker).

For a gentle stroll, head to Corbridge for a peaceful walk along the riverbank before popping into the historic village to browse its independent shops and warm up with a well-earned drink.

When it comes to spectacular views, you’re truly spoiled for choice.  A circular walk at Cawfields Quarry encompasses historic Hadrian’s Wall and panoramic vistas. And Lambley Viaduct strides the South Tyne to provide breathtaking riverscapes followed by a rewarding walk through its unique history.

Family Favourites

It’s pantomime season (oh yes it is!) and Northumberland’s theatres offer something for everyone. Head to bustling Newcastle and take your seats at the historic Theatre Royal to enjoy Aladdin. Or pop down the valley to the Queen’s Hall in Hexham to see Jack and the Beanstalk.

Or to run off some of that Christmas energy, take a trip to the enchanted land of Lilidorei at Alnwick Garden. Collect your passport and play your way around the world’s largest play structure to learn all about Christmas traditions from other cultures.

Step Back In Time

Experience the rich history of the north east with a visit to Beamish open air museum. From the 27th December to the 5th of January, you can experience traditional 12th Night celebrations through time – from the Victorian era all the way to the 1950s.

And the festivities continue at Wallington Hall near the pretty town of Morpeth. The historic house is open, and dressed in its Christmas finery from the 27th December to the 5th January. Step inside to enjoy live music and marvel at its beautiful 20 foot Christmas tree.

A New Year Like No Other

If you’re staying in Northumberland for the New Year, our self-catering suites offer the perfect, luxury location for a relaxed celebration. Raise a glass to 2025 under the stars in our peaceful corner of countryside.

Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, head out to nearby Allendale for a New Year like no other. The village’s centuries-old Tar Bar’l ceremony brings in the new year with golden light and roaring fire. Men of the town carrying flaming barrels of tar through the streets in a dazzling procession, ending in a blazing bonfire and town-wide celebration.

Whether you’re keen to get out and about or are looking forward to a peaceful, fireside retreat – our cosy state suites offer a luxury home from home for your Twixmas break.

From intimate getaways for 2 to whole-family gatherings of 8 (plus the pooch) – explore our self-catering stables to plan your festive post-Christmas retreat.
