Whether you’re looking for somewhere to stay while celebrating a special occasion or for a family holiday, Chesters Stables offers self-catering perfection in the heart of Northumberland.

Here we look at just some of the reasons our 8 luxurious suites are the ideal place to stay, whatever the reason for your visit to the area.

Northumberland is on their doorstep

When staying at Chesters Stables, guests can enjoy the perfect blend of discovering the must-see highlights that Northumberland has to offer, as well as the hidden gems that only those truly familiar with the area will know.

Hadrian’s Wall lies just five minutes away and it really is something that has to be seen to be believed. 84 miles long and almost 2000 years old, this UNESCO World Heritage Site allows keen explorers to gain an insightful glimpse into what life was like in Roman Britain.

Key roman posts also lie nearby, with Vindolanda and Chesters Roman Fort offering fascinating days out for those with a keen interest in history.

Hexham, an award-winning market town, is a short drive away, providing an abundance of historical and cultural attractions. From Hexham Abbey to a thriving marketplace, there really is something for everyone in a place frequently voted the happiest place to live in the UK.

Those who enjoy getting back to nature can ramble and explore Northumberland National Park, while Kielder Forest Park offers exciting days out and incredible nights, full of stargazing experiences.

They’re a relaxing place to stay

Each of our self-catering suites offer individual guests the space, peace and privacy we all crave during a getaway, while also allowing them to reconnect together, whether as couples, families or friends.

From the spacious style of The Clocktower to the intimacy of The Stallion, each of our suites provide the very best to our guests, including large living areas and bedrooms, rustic country kitchens and stylish en-suite bathrooms. Furthermore, each stable has been decorated with beautiful furnishings and thoughtful touches throughout.

Their proximity to our sister properties

While staying at Chesters Stables, guests are encouraged to visit our sister property and discover the luxuries it offers.

A short drive away lies Matfen Hall, a magnificent country estate that not only provides a range of dining experiences across 5 different restaurants, bars and lounges, but allows golfers of all abilities to challenge themselves on championship-level golf courses and state-of-the-art facilities.

Non-residents of the jewel in Northumberland’s crown can choose from five-star dining experiences in Emerald Restaurant, steak and seafood classics amongst the original architecture of our courtyard or highly-finished Afternoon Teas in The Orangery, our dedicated tea lounge. The Retreat, Matfen Hall’s harmonious spa offers access to a luxury pool and thermal suites, leaving guests with no shortage of ways to unwind while staying at Chesters Stables.

Their location

Despite being situated far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, our beautiful stables are still ideally located for guests to reach, boasting a range of transport links nearby.

While Hexham, a favourite day out of previous guests, offers both bus and rail links from major cities, the A69 provides travellers from Newcastle upon Tyne an almost direct route to our spacious suites in one direction. Those joining us from Cumbria, including Carlisle, can use the same route, but from the other direction.

For those driving up from the south, the A1 offers the most direct route, with guests encouraged to use the A68 to bring them closer to our doors and it is this road that those travelling down from Edinburgh are urged to use. Those travelling from Glasgow would be best driving down to Carlisle before making their way in between Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines.
