And (whisper it) get ready for Christmas with some cosy craft sessions and artisan markets.
With so many events and activities to enjoy and explore, make this month magical with our guide to November in Northumberland.
Bonfire Night Events
Eyes to the skies – it’s the season for fireworks, bonfires, magic and sparkle. And Northumberland has a full harvest of organised events for you to enjoy.
Wrap up warm and head down to Hexham for their annual fireworks spectacular on the 2nd November. With hot food, fairground rides and fireworks set to music – it’s an evening for the entire family to enjoy.
Or travel north to Morpeth on Sunday, 3rd November for a traditional bonfire and fireworks display, starting at 5pm at the Rugby Club.
And on Guy Fawkes Night itself, watch fireworks light up the sky in the shadow of Hadrian’s Wall. On Tuesday, 5th November the scenic Twice Brewed Inn is hosting an evening of Fireworks & Music, with a beer tent, bonfire bites and amazing fireworks.
Marvellous Markets
Meet the Lady of the North at Northumberlandia. Walk this stunning landscape sculpture, explore the country park and woodland trail before picking up some locally sourced treats from its monthly food and craft market on Sunday, 3rd November.
Blow away the cobwebs with a trip to the coast and enjoy some early Christmas shopping at the Forage Winter Market at Rigg & Furrow in Acklington. Enjoy live music, local beer and street food as you browse thoughtful and beautiful pieces from 45 local artisan makers from the 8th – 9th November.
Family Fun
Step back in time to Meet The Vikings at Bamburgh Castle. Join Ylva and Ormhildr to have fun and learn about Viking history – in the very castle the vikings invaded in 993AD!
Oh help, oh no – it’s an interactive Gruffalo trail! It’s the Gruffalo’s 25th Birthday and everyone’s invited to celebrate at Kielder Forest. Pick up an activity pack from the Visitor Centre and follow the woodland trail to play fun games, find the missing party items and learn about life in the forest. Available until March 2025.
Christmas Crafting
Experience life in Anglo Saxon Northumberland with a trip to Ad Gefrin in Wooler. This museum and whisky distillery offers an atmospheric and immersive experience, and on Friday, 15th November you can join the Yule Decoration Workshop. Craft a trio of willow decorations to decorate your home, inspired by the traditional Anglo Saxon Yule.
Bring the beauty of Northumberland to friends and family by crafting your own Christmas cards, made using natural items foraged from the local area. The workshop at Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre is from 9.30am – 12.30pm on Saturday 9th November.
However you choose to spend your November in Northumberland, our self catering stables offer the very warmest welcome as you return, red-cheeked to cosy up by the log fire and unwind together. And, with suites to accommodate groups from 2 to 8, the whole family (including the dog!) can enjoy a truly memorable autumn and winter stay.
